J. Cole Says He Didn’t Diss Eminem And That He’s A Huge Fan

J. Cole recently caused some commotion after some lyrics in his song “Fire Squad” mentioned Eminem. Many people thought that J. Cole was dissing Eminem on the track but he cleared the air during his interview with Angie Martinez on Power 105.1.

“People gotta know, Its silly how big of an Eminem fan I am,” Cole said. “When I had the song “Let Nas Down” and I had the raps hanging up on my wall, he wasn’t the only one. It was a very select, top notch people that I worshiped and Eminem was literally at the top of that list. My first song was literally an Eminem bite. If you thinking I’m dissing Eminem, than I know you just read the headline, or you’re listening to the song with the headline in mind.”

“That headline that you saw, It’s not the truth. It’s a perspective that someone took and tried to give you the most enticing headline. Why? So they can make money, the 29-year-old artist said. “No disrespect, this whole system is not set up to bring truth. It’s not set up to bring the real news. The news isn’t set up to inform you. You Can Now Hear The Supreme Court Justice Recite Lyrics From Eminem’s ’97 Bonnie & Clyde’

Eminem has been a hot topic in a recent court case as the Supreme Court attempts to decide as to whether or not threats on the Internet should be considered as real threats or not.

Pennsylvania man Anthony Elonis was defending his online threats by saying he intended to have them read as if they were a rap verse.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts then brought up the following lyrics from Eminem’s “97 Bonnie & Clyde.”

“You know: ‘Dada make a nice bed for mommy at the bottom of the lake, tie a rope around a rock’ — this is during the context of a domestic dispute between a husband and wife. ‘There goes mama splashing in the water, no more fighting with dad,’ you know, all that stuff. Now, under your test, could that be prosecuted?”

Deputy Solicitor General Michael Dreeber then responded “No, because if you look at the context of these statements,” replied Dreeben before being cut off by Roberts.

“Because Eminem said it instead of somebody else?” asked Roberts.

“Because Eminem said it at a concert where people are going to be entertained,” answered Dreeben. “This is a critical part of the context. It wasn’t as if he stated it to her in private or on a Facebook page after having received a protection from abuse order. It wasn’t as if he appropriated a style of rap that wasn’t anything that he had been doing previously in the marriage and all of a sudden tried to express violent statements that way. In the context, I think any reasonable person would conclude at a minimum that there is ambiguity about these statements being a serious intention of an expression to do harm.”

The reason I wrote it is because everyone went nuts to Eminem’s shit and they went nuts to Crooked [I]’s shit but mainly to Em’s shit. So when I listened to it, I had to outwrite all of it. I’m telling you right now, when you guys hear this section of my verse that I have for Cassidy, I outwrote the fuck out of both [Eminem and Crooked I]. I look up to them, that’s why I outwrote them. It’s not like me trying to be bigger or anything but I literally did it and I didn’t stop until I did.”
